Facebook and Instagram ads can fill your diary quickly, or burn through £200 with nothing to show for it. Which one happens usually comes down to what you promote, who sees it and what happens after someone clicks, more than the size of the budget.

This guide covers how personal trainers can run Facebook ads that bring in clients, from picking an offer to setting a budget.

## Why Facebook and Instagram ads work for personal trainers

- Fitness content is already part of what people scroll past every day: before-and-after posts, workouts and coaches.
- You can target locally or worldwide. In-person trainers can reach people near their gym, and online coaches can reach whole countries.
- One campaign covers both apps, because Meta runs your ad on Facebook and Instagram from one setup.
- You control the spend. Start at a few pounds a day and stop whenever you like.

## Step 1: Promote one clear offer

The most common mistake is an ad that says "I'm a personal trainer, get in touch". Very few people click that.

Promote one specific thing with a clear next step, such as:

- A 6-week or 12-week programme with a start date
- A free consultation or taster session
- A low-cost starter offer, like a 4-week kickstart
- An online course people can buy and start today

Link the ad to a page where people can buy, book or leave their details straight away. If you send ad clicks to your Instagram profile or a homepage, most of them drift off.

## Step 2: Make the creative do the work

Your images and videos matter more than your words. For trainers, these tend to work:

- short videos of you coaching, 10 to 30 seconds, filmed on your phone (real footage does better than polished)
- client results, shared with their permission
- you talking to camera about who the programme is for

Use at least three different videos or images, so Meta can find the one that works best.

Write the headline and text for one person. "Busy parents who want to get strong again in 12 weeks" will get more clicks than "Transform your life".

## Step 3: Target the right people

- Location: a radius around your gym for in-person coaching, or the countries you can coach online.
- Age and gender: the people your offer is for.
- Interests: 1 to 3 that match your ideal client, such as strength training, running or weight loss.

Don't narrow it too far. Meta has got much better at finding the right people, and a broad audience with a strong video often does better than a tiny, detailed one.

## Step 4: Set a budget you can live with

- Start small. £5 to £15 a day is enough to learn what works.
- Give it a week. Meta needs a few days to learn who responds, so judging an ad after one day tells you very little.
- Leave out an end date if you can. Ads that keep running tend to get cheaper as Meta learns.
- Judge ads on cost per lead or sale, and ignore likes. A £20 lead who becomes a £600 client is a great result.

## Step 5: Follow up fast

An ad gets you a name, and you still have to turn it into a client. Reply to new leads within the day, send them somewhere they can book, and keep their details in one place so nobody gets forgotten.

## The easy way: run your ads from Boost Fitness

Ads Manager is built for big advertisers and has a lot of settings. Boost Fitness builds the campaign for you from inside your coaching app:

1. Pick the course you want to promote. Your Boost course page is the landing page, so people can buy or sign up straight away.
2. Add 3 or more videos or images.
3. Choose countries and 1 to 3 interests. Each interest becomes its own ad set, so you can see which audience works.
4. Set a daily budget and a start date.
5. Check your headline and ad text, which start from your course name and description, with a live preview of the ad.
6. Publish. Meta reviews the ads and they go live on Facebook and Instagram.

Meta bills your ad spend to your own ad account, and Boost doesn't take a cut of it. Afterwards you can pause, restart, add ads or change the daily budget from the same screen, and Analytics shows how many people went from ad to active client.

Leads who leave their details on your courses show up in Promote › Leads, and if you use MailChimp, every new lead and buyer is added to your audience automatically.

Meta ad campaigns are included on Boost Plus (one active campaign at a time) and Pro (unlimited), and you can try them free for 30 days.

## Common mistakes to avoid

- Running an ad with no clear offer. "Get in touch" isn't an offer.
- Sending clicks to Instagram instead of a page where people can buy or book.
- Using one image or video. Give Meta at least three to test.
- Changing everything after a day. Give an ad a week.
- Leaving leads waiting. Someone you reply to tomorrow has often lost interest.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much should a personal trainer spend on Facebook ads?

Start with £5 to £15 a day for at least a week, then put more behind the ads that bring in leads. That's about £150 to £450 a month, enough to learn what works without risking much.

### Do Facebook ads work for personal trainers?

Yes, when the ad promotes one clear offer, uses real videos of you and links to a page where people can buy or book. Ads that just say you're a trainer rarely work.

### Should I use Facebook or Instagram ads?

Both. One Meta campaign runs on Facebook and Instagram together, and Meta shows each ad wherever it performs best.

### Can I run Facebook ads without Ads Manager?

Yes. Boost Fitness creates the campaign, ad sets and ads in your Meta account for you from a simple step-by-step screen, so you never have to open Ads Manager.

## Key takeaways

- Promote one clear offer that links to a page where people can buy or book.
- Use at least three short, real videos or images.
- Target sensibly, start at £5 to £15 a day and give it a week.
- Follow up every lead fast.
- Boost Fitness can build and run the campaign for you from your coaching app.
