# Dark mode, calorie targets that adjust themselves, and meal plans your clients build

**Your dashboard and your clients' app now have a dark mode. Clients can set a calorie goal that re-checks itself every week, build their own meal plans and send them to you, and you can work calories out per client instead of per plan.**

Boost has a dark mode now, on your dashboard and in your clients' app. The rest of this release is nutrition. Clients can set a calorie goal and let the app adjust their target from what actually happens on the scale. They can build their own meal plans and, if you want, send them to you to check. And on your side, calories can be worked out for each client instead of typed once for everyone.

## Dark mode, for you and your clients

Go to Account → Configuration → Appearance and choose Light, Dark or Match my device. The change applies straight away, and Match my device follows your computer or phone and switches when it does. The choice is saved on that device, so a laptop and a phone can differ. Light stays the default until you pick something else.

Your clients get the same three options in their app, under Account → Preferences. Their choice is theirs and yours is yours. A client logging dinner at 10pm no longer gets a white screen to the face.

Anything that shows what a visitor or client will see stays light, so you are always previewing the real thing. That covers your public website, the website editor's preview, the course and blog previews, emails, PDFs and share cards.

Logos needed their own fix, because a dark logo on a dark background disappears. Website settings now has a dark mode panel beside your logo with three choices: a small white tile behind the logo, the logo drawn in white (best for one-colour logos), or your own dark mode version as a second upload. Your clients' app uses whichever you pick.

## Calorie targets that adjust themselves

Clients [**could already set their own daily targets**](https://boostfitness.io/blog/client-app-rebuilt). Now they can set a goal instead of guessing the numbers. They choose lose weight, maintain or gain weight, a pace as a percentage of bodyweight per week, and a goal weight. The app warns them if the pace is aggressive but never stops them.

Once a week the app runs a check-in. It compares what they logged with what their weight trend did, works out what they are actually burning, and proposes a new target. They see the number and accept it with one tap. Days with no food logged can be marked as fasted or "I forgot to log", so a missed day does not look like a day of eating nothing. Weekly steps are capped, and a client who stops logging holds their target rather than drifting.

Two things for you. Anything you prescribe for a day still wins over the client's own targets, so the goal fills gaps rather than overriding your plan. And the Goal tracking card on the client's Nutrition tab shows their goal, trend weight, estimated expenditure, goal weight and the daily target they are on.

Clients also get a new Insights section at the top of their Progress page: estimated expenditure over time, their weight trend against the raw scale reading, habits, and energy balance. The trend line matters most, because it is the number the check-in uses, and it does not jump around after a salty dinner the way the scale does.

## Meal plans your clients build

[**Ready-made meal plans**](https://boostfitness.io/blog/ready-made-meal-plans-food-diary) cover the clients who want to be told what to eat. Some clients would rather plan their own week and have you look over it. They can now do that from Nutrition → Meal plans in their app.

A plan is one, two or four weeks long, with breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks each day. Clients pick from your foods and recipes, which are listed first, and anything else the food diary knows, or they add their own food. There are two modes. Counting shows calories and macros against their target. Simple hides the numbers and lets them type a meal in words, for clients who find tracking stressful.

When they start a plan, they pick a start date up to 12 weeks ahead, and each day's meals appear inside their food diary with a Log button.

If you want to see plans before clients run them, switch on Send you their meal plans under Client Permissions on Account → Configuration, or for one client on their profile. It starts off, and it needs Plus. Clients then get a Send to coach button. Sent plans show up on the client's Nutrition tab with a bell notification, and you approve them as they are or edit them and send them back. The client sees what you changed. With the switch off, clients still plan and run their own meals, they just never send them.

## Calories worked out per client

This one came from coaches asking for a calorie calculator. In the nutrition editor, Calories can now be Fixed or Personalised. Personalised works out maintenance from the client's sex, age, height, activity level and latest weigh-in, most of which they already gave you in the [**welcome questionnaire**](https://boostfitness.io/blog/automated-client-messages-faster-app). You then adjust from maintenance, say minus 500. You can override the activity level or type your own maintenance number. Macros can be set in grams, percentages, or grams per kg of bodyweight.

Seven presets come built in: Lose fat, Maintain, Build muscle, High protein, Balanced, Keto and Low fat. On Plus you can save your own. You can also set a client's usual preset so it is the first thing the editor offers for them.

The same rules work in the programme and meal-plan builders. Set a day to Personalised or grams per kg and one plan gives every client on it their own numbers, worked out when the plan lands on them. A client who has not given you their details yet holds the fallback numbers you set, and gets their own as soon as the details arrive. Past days keep the numbers they had, so a new weigh-in never rewrites last week.

The Working towards field on a client's profile is now a goal picker too, with eight common goals and room to type your own.

## In your clients' app

- **Habit streaks.** Every [**habit**](https://boostfitness.io/blog/habit-metrics-calendar-sync-coach-emails) shows its current run next to its name, the last few days as small circles leading into today's tick, and the client's best. Beat it and they get a New best message.
- **Supersets round by round.** The workout logger lays a superset out as rounds, with the rest after each round rather than after each exercise. In the builder, set counts across a superset now stay in step.
- **Hide tabs they never use.** A client who only trains with you can hide Nutrition, and one on a nutrition-only plan can hide Train. Train, Nutrition and Progress can be hidden. Today and Chat always stay.
- **A tidier Account.** Account is a short menu with one page per section. On a phone it folds open under their avatar, and on a computer the sections are tabs.
- **Share cards on a computer.** The workout share card copies to the clipboard, with links that open Instagram or TikTok ready to paste.

## On your side

- **More than one section of the same type.** Your website can have two testimonial sections, say one for 1-to-1 clients and one for groups. The eye on each row now means "show in this section", so an item can appear in one and not the other. Each section gets its own menu name.
- **Course access that ends.** Switch on End access after this duration when you edit a course with a set length, and each new client has it for that long from the day they got it.
- **Checkouts that did not finish.** Analytics → Courses shows how many people started checkout on a Buy Now course and how many did not finish.
- **The client's food diary in Daily macros.** The Daily macros card on a client's Nutrition tab now shows what they logged that day and their supplement ticks.

## Fixes and polish

- Changing a repeating item's rule no longer wipes the past. Ticks, logged sets and streaks stay put, and only future dates are redrawn. This finishes off [**repeating programmes**](https://boostfitness.io/blog/repeating-programmes-library-everywhere).
- A second habit or note on the same programme day now syncs to clients already on the programme.
- Chat files work on phones, PDFs open in a new tab, and the chat thread goes full screen on mobile.
- The barcode scanner stops asking iPhone users for camera access every time.
- Calendar and diary days no longer slip by one for anyone west of the UK.
- Partial course refunds are recorded properly, and a course that has fallen out of sync with Stripe shows a plain explanation instead of a Stripe error.
- Check-in and form notifications open the right client.
- Tag and name fields accept a word another option already contains, so "Legs" next to "Legs day" works.
- Registration names a password that has appeared in a data breach instead of failing with a generic error.

## Key takeaways

- **Dark mode is here.** Light, Dark or Match my device, for you under Account → Configuration and for clients under Account → Preferences. Your website, emails and PDFs stay light, and your logo has a dark mode setting.
- **Calorie goals adjust weekly.** Clients pick a goal and a pace, the app proposes a new target from their logs and weight trend, and your prescribed days still win.
- **Clients can build meal plans.** One to four weeks, counting or simple. Turn on Send you their meal plans (Plus) to approve or edit them first.
- **Calories can be per client.** Personalised calories, grams per kg, seven built-in presets and your own on Plus, working inside programmes and meal plans.
