# Messages that send themselves, and an app that's noticeably faster

**Build a rule once and Boost messages your client when it comes true. New clients answer a welcome questionnaire before they see their plan, both builders are full pages, clients can write you a testimonial, and the whole app is quicker.**

This is the biggest release we have shipped. Boost can now send a client a message on your behalf when something about them becomes true. New clients answer a short questionnaire before they see their plan, and you get their answers on their profile. Both builders are full pages instead of modals. And the whole app, the member side especially, is a lot quicker than it was a week ago.

## Messages that send themselves

You already know which message you would send if you had the time. A client hits a personal best and you want to say well done that afternoon, not next Tuesday. Someone goes quiet for a fortnight and you want to check in before they drift away entirely. With twenty clients that is a job you do properly for the first five and then stop doing.

Automations let you write that message once. Boost watches for the moment, and when it arrives the message lands in your normal chat thread with that client, from you.

A rule is a sentence you build rather than a form you fill in. You pick what to watch, pick the comparison, and write the message. There are nine things to watch: days since last workout, came back after a gap, new personal bests, weight change, compliance, days since last active, days since joined, client type, and group. Up to five conditions can sit in one rule, so "gone quiet for 14 days AND in my Online group" is a single rule rather than a workaround.

Four starting points are waiting for you when you open the page: PB congratulations, Welcome back, Gone quiet, and Weight has stalled. All four arrive switched off, and every part of them is yours to edit. A template is an ordinary rule the moment you save it.

Your message can drop in the client's first name, and on a personal-best rule it can name the exercises they set records on, so it reads like you typed it that morning rather than like a mail merge.

### The guardrails

The thing that makes automated messaging go wrong is volume, so the limits are built in rather than left to you:

A client never receives more than one automated message in a day, whatever your rules say. A rule never repeats inside its own interval, counted in whole days so a weekly cadence does not creep an hour earlier each week. A rule set to "any time" only sends between 8am and 8pm in your time zone. You can have up to 10 rules switched on at once, and up to 50 saved.

Switching a rule on always goes through a dialog that shows you the actual client names it currently reaches, with a warning if that is more than half your roster. You see who it hits before it hits them, every time.

On your side of the thread, anything Boost sent carries a quiet "Sent automatically" caption, so you never have to remember which messages were you and which were the rule.

You will find it under Clients, between Groups and Invitations. Automations are on Plus and above. If you are on Basic you can still open the page and read the templates.

## Everything is faster

We spent most of this release on speed, and it is the kind you feel rather than the kind you read off a chart. The member app got the bulk of the attention, because that is the screen your clients open in a gym with two bars of signal.

Today's workout is now written into the page the server sends, so it is on screen the moment the page arrives instead of appearing after a spinner. Train, Progress, Nutrition and the food diary open on what they already know and refresh quietly behind you, the way a native app does. Ticking a set, logging a food, dragging an item to another day: those all apply immediately rather than waiting for the round trip to finish. Opening the workout logger costs one read now instead of a chain of them.

Underneath that, we moved Boost's server to London so it sits next to the database. Every call the app makes now has a shorter trip than it did. We cut the Train overview from ten stacked database round trips down to six, and rewrote the slowest permission checks so the database works them out once per query rather than once for every row it looks at.

We also stopped loading code on pages that never use it. Payment and analytics libraries used to be part of the first load whether or not the page touched them. Your public website got the same treatment: the two stylesheets that were holding up the first paint are gone, and the photos on it are now served already sized rather than at full resolution and shrunk in the browser. If you have been on the [**mobile workout builder**](https://boostfitness.io/blog/mobile-workout-builder-worldwide-payments) or the [**rebuilt member area**](https://boostfitness.io/blog/client-app-rebuilt), this is the release where both stopped feeling like they were thinking about it.

## New clients tell you about themselves first

A client who has not been through onboarding now answers a short questionnaire the first time they open your member area. It is in your branding, one question per screen, with the usual member navigation hidden so there is nothing to wander off into.

There are eleven questions: sex, date of birth, height, weight, which way their weight has been going, body fat picked from nine illustrated figures, sessions a week, daily activity, lifting experience, cardio experience, and where they place themselves athletically. Height and weight use scroll wheels with their own unit toggles, so nobody types 1.75 into a box marked cm, and the units they pick are remembered for the rest of the app.

Every answer saves on Continue. A client who closes the app four questions in comes back to the fifth question, with a line telling them how far they got, rather than starting again. The weight they give is written as today's measurement, so their Progress chart has a starting point from day one rather than from their first weigh-in weeks later.

On your side, an About card on the client workspace shows you every answer in the words they chose, sitting between Working towards and Contact and account. It shows their age in years rather than their date of birth, and "Not answered yet" against anything still blank, with a quiet line telling you when they finished. It is read-only by design, since these are their answers rather than your notes. Your [**client forms and check-ins**](https://boostfitness.io/blog/client-onboarding-forms-questionnaires) are still the place for anything you want to ask in your own words.

## Both builders are now full pages

The programme builder and the meal plan builder have been rebuilt as real pages rather than modals. Your sidebar stays beside you, and the board gets the whole work area instead of a window floating on top of the list you came from.

On a desktop there are three columns. Your library sits on the left, the board in the middle, and an inspector on the right that reads and edits an item while its editor is still open. Drag a workout across, or tick several and place them in one go, or just click one onto the day you have selected. A pencil beside anything you saved yourself opens that item's own editor in place, so fixing a typo in a workout no longer means abandoning the programme you were halfway through building. Undo and redo are in the toolbar next to Select and Add week. While you are dragging a card, the Add week row turns into a bin.

On the meal side, ticking two or more foods offers to save them as a recipe with the fields already filled in. Calorie targets for a day, a week and the whole plan are worked out from what is actually on the board rather than typed in twice and left to disagree with each other.

On a phone you get one week at a time at touch density, with the library, the inspector and the add picker arriving as sheets that slide up from the bottom. Everything that [**repeats**](https://boostfitness.io/blog/repeating-programmes-library-everywhere) and everything in [**your Library**](https://boostfitness.io/blog/repeating-programmes-library-everywhere) works exactly as it did.

## Your clients can write you a testimonial

Getting a review out of a happy client used to mean emailing them, waiting, chasing, and then typing their words onto your website yourself.

Clients can now leave one from their member area. They give a star rating, write at least twenty characters with the count shown as they type, attach up to three photos, and tick a consent box before anything is sent.

It arrives pending in the Testimonials section of your website editor, where you approve or decline it. Nothing reaches your live site until you approve it, and approving is the step that moves their photos out of the private staging area and onto your site. A client can edit theirs while it is still waiting on you.

You can still type testimonials yourself, and those now take up to three photos as well. There is an "Ask a client" nudge in the section editor for sending the request in the first place, and the photo strip renders on both your public carousel and your course landing pages.

## One workout log, shared

Live sessions are gone, replaced by something simpler that works whether or not you are both in the room.

You and your client now edit one log per workout. Whoever saves a field last wins that field, either of you can complete or discard the workout, and both screens follow along. Autosave stayed, the device timer stayed, and Resume on the member side stayed. What went was the machinery around them: the presence heartbeats, the shared clocks, the editing locks and the running-session bar on your dashboard, none of which helped when your client trained at 6am on their own.

It also closed a leak we found while we were in there. Set updates during a group workout were filtered by workout but not by client, which meant a coach watching one member could receive another member's numbers. That is fixed.

## Also in this release

Programmes now have a "Start on" weekday. Set it to Monday and Day 1 of every week lands on a Monday, for manual assignments and course purchases alike. Changing it later affects new assignments only, so nothing already on a client's calendar moves.

You can cap how far ahead a client sees their calendar. Set a tenant-wide default on Account then Configuration, or override it per client on their Permissions panel, and the cap holds in the member app, in the API and in their calendar feed. The default is still No limit.

Gallery images, FAQs, team members and testimonials can be switched off without deleting them. An eye button beside edit and delete hides the row from your live site while keeping everything you typed, dimmed and badged "Hidden" in your editor, ready to switch back on whenever you want it.

Your business details moved to Website settings, which is where people were looking for them. Your clients can now raise a support ticket with us from their member area, and you get a notification when we reply. The workout editor gained a folder field, and its category pickers read from your library rather than a fixed list.

## Fixes and polish

- Saved workouts search now actually filters the list.
- An exercise that carries only an image saves. Images too large for the limit are caught before the upload rather than after it.
- A course price shows its billing frequency rather than the course length.
- Legal pages stay readable on a dark website background, and a hidden row's title stays readable on a phone.
- The cookie banner reserves its own space, so it can no longer sit on top of a button at the bottom of the screen.
- Food search no longer shows results from a search you have already moved on from.
- Upgrade prompts open the upgrade window again.
- Stripe Connect warns you when your payout currency and your course prices disagree, and refreshes your currency when you change it at Stripe.

## Key takeaways

- **Automations send the message for you.** Nine signals, up to five conditions in a rule, 10 rules on at once, and four ready-made templates. One automated message per client per day is a hard ceiling, and you see the names a rule reaches before you switch it on. Plus and above.
- **The member app is faster in a way clients will notice.** Today's workout is in the page when it arrives, screens open on what they already know, and the server now sits in London next to the database.
- **New clients arrive with a profile already filled in.** Eleven questions answered in your branding, saved as they go, and shown back to you on an About card with their age rather than their date of birth.
- **Clients can write their own testimonials.** Stars, words and up to three photos, pending until you approve, with approval the step that publishes the photos.
